Connecting Families Through Culture and Conversation
At HaHu Fidel Center, we believe that strong family connections create a strong community. While your children are learning and playing, we provide a welcoming space for parents to meet, share experiences, and build meaningful relationships with other Ethiopian families in our community.
Our parent networking program goes beyond casual conversations – we’re building a supportive network where families can find friendship, resources, and mutual support while navigating the joys and challenges of raising children in the diaspora.
What We Offer
Weekly Parent Connections
Every weekend during children's classes, we create intentional spaces for parents to connect. Our comfortable seating areas and complimentary coffee service encourage natural conversations and relationship building. Whether you're new to the community or have been part of our center for years, you'll find warm welcomes and genuine connections.
Professional Resource Network
We regularly invite Ethiopian professionals from various fields to share their expertise with our community. Our network includes immigration lawyers who can guide you through visa and citizenship processes, child development specialists who understand the unique aspects of raising bilingual children, and financial advisors who can help with family budgeting and planning.
Cultural Sharing Circles
These intimate gatherings allow parents to share stories, traditions, and wisdom from their own upbringing while learning how others balance Ethiopian cultural values with modern parenting approaches. It's a space where elders can share their experiences and younger parents can ask questions in a supportive environment.
Practical Support Systems
Beyond social connections, we facilitate practical support among families. This includes carpool coordination, childcare sharing for date nights or appointments, meal trains for new parents or families going through difficult times, and resource sharing for everything from finding Ethiopian ingredients to recommending local services.
Special Programs & Events
Monthly Parent Workshops
We host educational sessions on topics that matter to our families, led by experts from within our community. Recent workshops have covered bilingual language development, navigating the American school system, maintaining cultural identity, and balancing work and family life.
Family Social Events
Quarterly potlucks and celebrations bring families together in relaxed, joyful settings. These events often feature traditional Ethiopian foods, music, and games that allow parents to connect while children play together.
Community Resource Fairs
Twice a year, we organize fairs where local Ethiopian businesses and service providers can connect with families. From healthcare providers who understand our cultural context to local entrepreneurs offering products and services our community needs.
Intergenerational Activities
Special events that bring together children, parents, and elders for cultural activities like traditional coffee ceremonies, story sharing, and holiday celebrations that strengthen bonds across generations.
